Celebrate Father’s Day in Coastal North Carolina

Every Father’s Day, many of us stop and wonder just how we’ll show our dads the appreciation we have for all of the life lessons, the flat jokes that we secretly thought were hilarious, and the many hours of DIY projects – even the ones that went horribly awry before turning out alright in the end.

Suffice it to say, it can get a little difficult trying to nail down one gift or one expression of gratitude to encompass everything we want to say to dear old dad. Luckily, fathers come in all shapes and sizes, and each of them can appreciate something that coastal North Carolina has to offer!

If you already live in our beautiful region – or perhaps visit frequently at a second home or favorite vacation spot – then you already know what we mean. From the beaches to the welcoming communities, there’s a lot to love. So what will you show your dad this year on his special day?

For the coastal local dad

If your father is familiar with coastal North Carolina already, he’s probably got a few favorite pastimes that he’s been itching to get back to, now that the weather is perfect for fun in the sun. And thanks to a thriving seaside lifestyle in our area, there are plenty of ways to capitalize on the mild climate and clear skies. We recommend checking out any of the boat rentals or fishing expeditions nearby if you don’t have a vessel of your own, and getting out on the water for a day! Because it is summer, and there are plenty of vacation hotspots around, you might need to plan this one for a week day evening or morning if you can swing it, but trust us when we say that the man of the hour is sure to appreciate the time you’ll both get to spend out on the waves.

For the active dad

While some fathers live for the days that they can take a seat, put their feet up, and relax, there’s always one dad that has more energy than any of the kids! Luckily, southeastern North Carolina has plenty of ways to stay active, and community organizations and businesses that will put together events for you and dad to enjoy together. Take, for example, the Good Hops Brewing Beer Run; this annual trail race is perfect for all ages and skill levels, and is a great way to kick off Father’s Day weekend in Carolina Beach on Saturday, June 15. Registration is open until race day if spots remain, so if you want to enjoy a fun, dog-friendly event that benefits the Friends of Pleasure Island State Parks, we highly recommend you check out the details and get dad to sign up as soon as possible!

For the foodie dad

If all your dad wants for his special day is a top-notch dining experience, he’s in the right region. Here in southeastern North Carolina, there are all sorts of local restaurants to try, each with its own specialty menu items for the entire group to savor! A few of our favorite locales – like Bluewater Waterfront Grill – also happen to be on or near the water, which is ideal for making sure you’re all taking full advantage of the summer weather and cooler evening temperatures. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, take Saturday or Sunday and make it your mission to sample as many offerings from the local eateries as you possibly can. If you need some suggestions, your local experts on the Michelle Clark Team can certainly give you a few!
