The Legends of Tennis at Landfall

How’s your serve? Because at the Landfall community this Friday and Saturday, September 13 and 14, the competition is fierce!

For the first time in three years, The Legends of Tennis is back at the Country Club of Landfall Sports Center. And as a proud sponsor, the Michelle Clark Team encourages you to support the athletes, as well as some of our local foundations, which will benefit from the proceeds.

Whether you prefer to sit on the sidelines and watch, sign up as a sponsor, or promote the event in some other way, we hope you’ll check it out and keep it going for many years to come.

The event

Hosted by the Landfall Foundation, Legends is slated to be a two-day event with plenty of matches for everyone to enjoy. Whether you choose to become a sponsor, or attend via general admission tickets, there will also be plenty of food and drinks for you to sample before, during, and after each match of the tournament. And on Friday, VIP sponsors are going to be thanked with a special celebration following the Legends Match Play.

If you attend on Saturday, come prepared to learn a bit about the game! The pros are offering a clinic for the sponsors, as well as one for the Wilmington Boys and Girls Club. After the gates open at 12:30pm, though, the matches are on until about 6:30, when the Country Club of Landfall will invite attendees to join the Grand Slam Party.

The players

For its comeback year, the tournament will feature three former world top ten singles players and several winners of Grand Slam titles. Among them, you might recognize Mardy Fish, Luke Jensen, Mikael Pernfors, or Ellis Ferreira. And coming in as emcee, world renowned tennis commentator and Wilmington native Sam Gore will join us from ESPN.

And the reason all of these top-tier players are coming out to support this event is to in turn give back to some of the Wilmington area’s non-profit organizations in the form of foundation grants. Awarded to those that fall within categories of education, health and the arts, these grants have already made a difference in our area, giving more than $4.7 million to many organizations over the years, not to mention roughly $200,000 to 106 separate scholarship recipients.

So grab your racquet, lace up your tennis shoes, and don’t forget to apply some sunscreen! And for more community events and local news, stay tuned to the Michelle Clark Team’s blog.
